Quite common in my culture. The women take the child in for another reason as well. It's believed to be better to bring the child in, so the man doesn't have any cause to go befriending the mistress under the guise of checking up on his child. The wives believe more children can come from the affair and of course polygamy is not a crime. But women would rather a child than a whole other marriage.
