People clearly have time on their hands to protest. A friend of mine used to work at a Unilever call centre. She would tell us how people called to complain about margarine taste changes, toothpaste flavours, etc and they were prepared to spend hours on the phone explaining how much the brands meant to them. They call themselves concerned friends of the brand. We never understood their obsession.
